I really love these earrings. They remind me of the Naupaka flower. The Naupaka story is a beloved Hawaiian legend about forbidden love, symbolized by the distinctive half-flowers of the Naupaka plant, which grows both on the beach (naupaka kahakai) and in the mountains (naupaka kuahiwi). A princess, Naupaka, fell in love with a commoner, Kaui, but their union was forbidden by tradition. After being denied by elders and gods, they separated in sorrow, with Naupaka tearing a flower in half as a parting gift, explaining that he would live by the sea while she stayed in the mountains, forever separated but linked by the two halves of the blossom.
